A Day Without Covid

Who else thought that when all of this Covid situation started, it would only last for another couple of months? Who else thought that when we all first heard the word #StayAtHome to campaign social distancing, we’ll only be reading news about Covid for another few weeks?

Well, jokes on all of us because here we are in another year of wear—your—mask lifestyle and wash—your—hands ritual because yes, that small damned biological existence is still here and there, and in some parts of this world people are still being locked down in their houses.

Some of us are still trying so hard to believe in everything the media and our government tells us. Some others are still drawing another conspiracy theory about everything that happens. Some of us are struggling with the fact that the country where we live in has a high number of positive Covid cases with all it’s variants and we are still experiencing this various kinds of lockdown. Meanwhile, on the other part of earth some of us are already blessed with the back—to—normal day to day routine where concerts or crowd gathering events are held.

I believe that most of us just don’t care if there are any secret scenarios behind all of this but we are just so sick of being unable to do things the way we used to do before the pandemic hits. We’re suffocated enough wearing masks everyday everywhere.

And if I have to come with an opinion about all of this I might’ve said that Covid situation and all its horrors only affect us in the developing countries with so many troubled arrangements and problematic agendas. But who am I to have the say. It would be just some kind of ranting words coming out from the mouth of a woman who is so fed up with everything that comes along with this pandemic.

But above all this, Covid and lockdown routines push us to think about the cliche wise words we are always being told to apply; “look on the bright side”, or “better days are coming”, or “eventually, it will end”. Well, it’s obviously hard to always look on the bright side because, hell, everything seems to bring out the worst in every other thing.

Maybe it’s the stress, the anxiety, the pressure. Maybe it’s the boredom. Maybe we are all just so unbelievably tired with all this. But let's be honest, even the rules in our neighborhood or the queue line in our grocery store seems to pissed us off easily. We are easily triggered by the smallest issue to the things that are as big as the government announcement.

So if I may, from the shoes of a regular person who lives outside of her home country and works in the lowest role level of a career in the big company, I would say that we are allowed to cry and rant sometimes. We are allowed to be mad and feel tired. We are so allowed to freak out.

But just as much as all these feelings, we need to tell ourselves to hang in there and wait a little longer. Just try to be strong a little while even though we truly have no idea what could happen next. Keep reminding ourselves that we are all dealing with the same suffering. Every single person (except those ignorant rich and powerful people) is in their weak and fragile state. So let’s try our best to be nice and considerate. After all, with this exhausted soul, we still have to remember that to be kind to each other is still a must. It’s a bare minimum.

A small tip and hopefully this might help to reduce the heavy load on your shoulder or the rage inside your soul about this pandemic situation, take one day, just one day to cleanse ourselves. In that one day, try not to read or see anything about Covid and the news about it. Lock yourself home, turn off all the notifications in your phone, grab your favorite snacks and drinks, listen to some soothing playlist and pretend that it’s just another normal old day. Now there you are, in a day without Covid.
